Wooden Cabins for Work, Leisure and Extra Garden Space

A wooden cabin provides useful extra space for work, hobbies, exercise, relaxation or spending time with family and friends. Depending on the model, it can serve as a garden office, creative studio, playroom, peaceful retreat or guest annexe.

At Dancover, you can choose from wooden cabins in various sizes and designs, from traditional cabins to contemporary models with large windows and wide doors. The right choice depends on how you plan to use the cabin, where it will be positioned and how much interior space you need.

What can you use a wooden cabin for?

A compact cabin can provide a quiet place to work, read or pursue a hobby. A larger model may have room for furniture, exercise equipment or several people, creating a welcoming setting for socialising or relaxing in the garden.

Popular uses include:

• garden office
• hobby room or creative studio
• guest annexe
• exercise or yoga room
• playroom
• reading room or garden retreat
• sheltered social space

If you plan to use the cabin for overnight stays or during colder periods, check the construction, wall thickness, windows and doors of the individual model. Insulation, heating or other adaptations may be required. Always ensure that the intended use complies with local building regulations.

How do you choose the right wooden cabin?

Begin by considering what the cabin will be used for and how often. A seasonal garden retreat has different requirements from an office intended for regular year-round use.

Measure the available space carefully and consider:

• external dimensions and internal floor area
• wall thickness
• position of doors and windows
• daylight and ventilation
• space for furniture, storage or equipment
• access for delivery, assembly and maintenance
• whether flooring, roof covering and other components are included

The cabin’s position can also affect how well it works. Consider sunlight, privacy, views and access from the house. Leave sufficient space around the structure for assembly, maintenance and future wood treatment.

Untreated or pre-painted wooden cabins

The range includes cabins in untreated wood as well as pre-painted models. Some painted cabins are available in light or dark grey with contrasting white doors and windows.

An untreated cabin allows you to choose the colour or finish. Treat all untreated exterior wooden surfaces with a suitable wood protection product shortly after assembly. Pay particular attention to doors, window frames, edges and joints, and maintain the treatment according to the product manufacturer’s instructions.

Pre-painted cabins may also require maintenance over time. Check the individual product description for information about the finish and recommended care.

Do you need a wooden cabin or a wooden shed?

A wooden cabin is the more relevant choice when you want a comfortable space for work, hobbies, exercise, relaxation or social activities. Features such as larger windows, generous doors and a more open interior can make it easier to create a bright and welcoming room.

If your main priority is storing tools, garden machinery, bicycles or outdoor equipment, a wooden shed may be a more practical and economical solution. Consider how you will use the building before deciding how much space, daylight and comfort you need.

Foundation, assembly and included components

Place the cabin on a firm, level base capable of supporting the complete structure. Depending on the site and model, this may be a concrete base, paving slabs or a suitable timber foundation. Check the exact external dimensions before preparing the base.

Most wooden cabins are supplied as prefabricated assembly kits with individual components and step-by-step instructions. We generally recommend at least two people for assembly, as some parts can be large or heavy.

Specifications and included components vary. Before ordering, check whether the cabin includes flooring, foundation beams, roofing material, doors, windows, fittings and locks. Roof covering, insulation, anchoring materials or other accessories may need to be purchased separately. The individual product page contains the relevant details.

Plan the cabin and installation before ordering

Careful planning makes it easier to select a cabin that suits both the available space and its intended use. Measure the site, plan the interior and ensure there is suitable access for delivery and assembly.

Check whether planning permission or another form of local approval is required. The rules may depend on the cabin’s size, height, position and intended use.
