ProShed® garden sheds – find the right space for your outdoor equipment

Garden tools, bicycles and outdoor equipment are easier to use when they have a place of their own. ProShed® offers metal storage solutions in different sizes, from compact cabinets to garden sheds and larger garages. The right choice depends on what you need to store, how often you need access and how much space you can set aside.

Which ProShed® storage solution do you need?

Start with your largest items. A steel cabinet can keep hand tools, watering equipment and smaller accessories close to where you use them without taking up much garden space. If bicycles are the main priority, a bike shed gives them a dedicated storage area.

A garden shed provides room for a mix of items, such as a lawnmower, tools, outdoor toys and seasonal supplies. If you need space for a vehicle, larger machinery or substantial amounts of equipment, consider a metal garage. Choosing a little more space than you currently need may also give you room for shelves and future purchases.

Check the dimensions you will use every day

Floor area is only part of the decision. Measure your largest bicycle, mower or piece of machinery, then compare it with the door opening and internal dimensions of the model you are considering. Make sure there is enough room to get items in and out without having to move everything else first.

Measure the proposed site too. Check the shed’s external dimensions, including any roof overhang, and allow space to open the doors and walk around the structure. Door style, roof shape and features such as skylights or covered extensions vary between ProShed® models, so compare the product specifications before deciding.

Why choose a metal garden shed?

ProShed® metal sheds offer a practical alternative to timber when you want outdoor storage without regular painting or wood treatment. They do not rot or attract wood-boring insects. Materials and finishes vary by model, so check the individual product details if a particular construction or colour matters to you.

Low maintenance still involves some care. Keep leaves and dirt away from the shed, clear any ventilation openings and check the roof, doors and fixings from time to time. If a coated surface is damaged, follow the product instructions for treating it.

Prepare the base and manage moisture

A firm, level base helps the frame and doors fit and function as intended. Depending on the model and site, concrete, paving slabs or a properly constructed timber base may be suitable. Follow the assembly instructions for your chosen shed and anchor it as directed. Avoid installing it directly on grass or uneven ground.

An uninsulated metal shed can develop condensation as the temperature and humidity change. A well-prepared base, a suitable moisture barrier and clear ventilation openings can help reduce it. Let wet tools dry before putting them away, and keep cushions or other moisture-sensitive items in suitable closed containers. A standard metal shed is designed for general outdoor storage; it is not a climate-controlled room.

Make the storage space work harder

Think about how you will use the shed before filling it. Keep heavy machinery at floor level and leave a clear route to the items you need most often. Garden shed accessories, including compatible floor frames, hooks and shelves, can help organise smaller equipment and free up floor space. Check compatibility with your model before ordering accessories or attaching anything to the walls.

Finally, check whether any planning rules or property restrictions apply to the size and location you have chosen before preparing the base. This is particularly useful to do early if you are considering one of the larger sheds or garages.
