Strong frames and weather-resistant covers

Current Dancover livestock shelters include models with hot-dip galvanised steel frames and flame-retardant 610 g/m² PVC covers. These covers are waterproof and UV-resistant, and several models are enclosed on three sides to provide a protected interior while keeping the front open for easy access.

Other models use a substantially different construction with strong steel frames and painted galvanised steel roof and wall panels.

Because materials vary across the range, always check the specifications of the individual shelter rather than assuming that every livestock model has the same frame, cover or weather characteristics.

Where should you place a livestock shelter?

A livestock shelter should be positioned where the animals can reach it easily and where the ground and surroundings are suitable for regular use.

Consider:

• prevailing wind and driving rain
• shade and sun exposure
• drainage and ground conditions
• access for animals
• access for feeding and maintenance
• proximity to fences, gates and other farm structures

Avoid locations where water regularly collects or where access becomes difficult in wet conditions.

Some Dancover shelters can also be relocated. A current 5×6 m steel-clad model, for example, includes a lifting device that allows the complete shelter to be moved with a front loader or similar machinery.

Livestock shelters must be assembled and anchored according to the instructions for the individual model. Large covers and structures can be exposed to considerable forces during strong wind, and specifications vary across the range.

Do not assume that a shelter is suitable for unlimited wind or snow simply because it is designed for outdoor livestock use. Some current Dancover models do not have specified wind or snow load ratings, and snow must be removed from the roof when required.

Inspect the shelter regularly and make sure the frame, cover or panels and anchoring remain in good condition.
